Analytical criteria are perspectives from which online processes can be analysed.
Often these analytical criteria are called success criteria, based on the premise that with the help of such processes certain aims can be achieved (goals of online participation).
Among those criteria are (for a full list and links see subcategories below):
- participation - how many participate
- inclusion - who participates (i.e. from what group(s))
- quality - what is the substantive quality of the process and/or result
- legitimacy - is the process or the result considered legitimate
- influence - how much influence have participants on the final results
- attitudes - are (democratic) values acquired by participation, e.g. acquiring democratic values or changing someone's opinion
- skills - does the process promote certain skills, what skills are necessary to participate
- effectiveness - does the process achieve its objectives
- efficiency - does it achieve the objectives with adequate resources
At least some of these criteria can be distinguished further:
- do they apply to the process or the result (or both) - For example, it is a difference to consider the legitimacy of the process itself and the legitimacy of the result of the process
- Possible distinction between internal criteria and external criteria.
